Sam is the Local Government Chief Digital Officer for Wales. Her role is to drive innovation, change and service improvement across all 22 local authorities. Through the adoption of agile practices, raising digital skills and fostering collaboration, the aim is to fast-forward Wales into a future focussed nation, ready to take advantage of emerging technology and be better prepared for challenges and opportunities. Sam has over 30 years’ experience in public sector, both in central and local government, with a focus on digital for the last 20 years. She has delivered projects with the Government Digital Service and was the head of digital delivery and then service design for the 2021 Census. Sam was also CIO & Head of IT and Digital at Birmingham City council before returning to Wales in late 2020 to take up this new and exciting role.
